Caféa Cup – Innovative cup made with coffee silverskin

Feb 15, 2024

After a year of development, testing, experimenting, and certification, the day has finally arrived! Coffee Based is launching its latest product: The Cafea Cup

Gorinchem, Rotterdam, February 15, 2024 – Coffee Based and Sodexo today announce the launch of the Caféa Cup, a circular innovation in the world of reusable cups. This fully plant-based, recycled cup is made using the silverskin that is released during the roasting of coffee beans, making it a unique product.

The Cafea Cup is the latest product from Coffee Based, a leader in the circular economy that uses coffee waste as raw material for products. Lisanne Addink, CEO of Coffee Based, said, “We have already won several innovation awards for successfully creating a stylish coffee cup from coffee grounds that meets European food safety standards. Starting today, we can utilize even more waste materials from the coffee chain, as we are now also using the coffee bean husks. As a small Dutch company, I am very proud that we can bring such a significant innovation to the market. Sodexo was immediately interested and will be the first service provider to use these cups with their clients.”

A response to the SUP legislation
The collaboration between Coffee Based and Sodexo comes at a logical time. The new SUP legislation calls for an alternative to disposable cups, as disposable cups have been banned in offices since January 1. Marloes van der Have, CSR Manager at Sodexo, said, “Sodexo is constantly seeking innovative sustainable solutions, which is why we often collaborate with innovative companies like Coffee Based. With the Cafea Cup, we offer not only a reusable product that replaces disposable cups but also a cup made from materials that would otherwise have become waste. Our clients are increasingly demanding products that drive positive change, and we are happy to provide them with such solutions.”
